Old Ironsides, also more commonly known as the U.S.S. Constitution, is the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. Her keel was laid in November of 1794 and she was nicknamed “Old Ironsides” during the war of 1812 when British cannonballs bounced off her sides.
Constitution was removed from active service in 1882 and thereafter retired to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in New Hampshire. Today she resides in Boston, Massachusetts.
